Ode to Diana.

I'm not one to post the latest, hottest trax; but then I fond out that Bottin did a cover version of The Theme from V, and I kinda flipped out and had to share. This track is soo damn good. Just spreading the love readers. Enjoy this ode to Diana masterpiece that only an Italian could create.

p.s.
After a year of service from DivShare, I've cancelled my account. DivShare gets a 6.5 outta 10 for paid file hosting service. Servers went down or were 'in maintenance' several times thoughout my service. FYI. The Bottin track is a 7 day YouSendIt link.

Joy Revision

Happy New Year everybody! Hope 2010 was a good one :: and here's to 2011 being even better. At the tail end of last year, the homie Shawn Ryan sent over a nice little promo package of his Joy Revision edits. Shawn is a Philly based DJ/producer who I've been lucky enough to know for a couple years now. The digital only release comes courtesy of Gazeebo and can be found at Juno Download. Nicely done Shawn!

Shawn's own words on the release..."There's a driving Sylvester song , a super funky b-side from Haircut 100, and a percussion laden slow burner by Dennis Coffey".

Check out all tracks below on SoundCloud and head over to JunoDownload to buy 'em.

BICEP.

Throne Of Blood is soo outta control right now. So I couldn't be more psyched to hear the homies Bicep have got an EP out on on the New York based label. Matt and Andy have been doing the blog thang for sometime now. Actually, I think we both kinda started out at the same time; and because of that quickly became internet palz. The guys have kindly hooked us up with a cut off of EP1, so take a listen and click through to the usual spots below to score the release. Killer floor filler.

Turn on your Graydar.

Graydar is Peter PleasureCruise and MisterBradleyP doing what they do best - getting faded and playing dusty disco records. Here's the first in what hopes to be a series of mixtapes and productions - if they can keep their shit together.

Another Way To Feel

Brand spanking new E.P. from Small Pyramids. Readers of this blog will know that I'm a big fan of his work - and after having a chance to DJ and hang with Zach when I was in LA this year, I'm now a fan of the dude himself! A good person making great music. Download and enjoy.

I'm back from the dead.

Head over to Darklord's site to pick up his third, and in my opinion his best, mix for the season. The track list is killer; Goblin, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis.
And the final track? Are you kidding me?!?! Brilliant.

Made In The 216

I've put together a mix for a party I'm playing this weekend. The gig is Made In The 216; an event put on by the super hot Room Service shop and it's proprietor, Danielle DeBoe. Billed as two days of shopping, music, beer, food and shenanigans - it all goes down this weekend June 11th and 12th. So please, come out and support local artists and small business owners. It's gonna be radical.

Ok - onto the mix. It's pretty simple, actually. Side A is for the lovers. Don Henely, Nu Shooz and Jarvis Cocker. Side B is for the party people; with the likes of Hot Chip, Kano and The Phenomenal Handclap Band. I've also sprinkled in a few nostalgic audio snippets that many fellow Clevelanders should find amusing...hope you enjoy!

I'm proud to have my friend Ryan Santos contribute to the blog's mix series. Ryan is a super talented dude and is currently focusing on Please. Please is Ryan's unique catering company. It combines great grandmothers' techniques & forgotten ingredients with innovative and creative approaches to modern seasonal cooking. Please specializes in catering events from 5-50 people; featuring multi-course dinner parties, hors d' oeuvres, craft cocktails, catered picnics, beer pairings and anything and everything else in between.

Ryan's talents also lie in crafting the perfect mix for sun kissed summer days. Check out Pleasetoeatyou.com and enjoy the mix.

Igor Goes To Hollywood.

"Igor Goes to Hollywood" is the featured track from the newest Hess Is More EP, "Democracy". Hess Is More is a danish trio led by mad man Mikkel Hess who came together to create three tracks of mutant disco jazz.

Appropriately titled, "Igor Goes to Hollywood" clocks in at ten and half minutes, and feels like a mega budget film score run amok - a brilliant combination of sounds and genres encompassing disco, jazz, folk and techno. Have a listen for yourself, and feel free to check out the whole Democracy EP and other releases on our Soundcloud page.

Another stellar release from Mikkel Hess!

Duets.

I received a promo pack from Geneva-based duo Gina&Tony yesterday. Their bio reads "haunted melodies from the 50s, cinematic echoes from the 70s, snappy funky beats from a 21st century dancefloor and love whispers from Mars...that's what they do." A pretty cool descriptor if you ask me. Anywho - the pack came with an electro tinged reworking of the single Big Bang Love from The Phenomenal Handclap Band - and I thought I'd share it.

The whole EP is pretty fun and can be picked up at Juno Download.

mix02: Chris Kontos

After a brief hiatus, the PleasureCruise'n Mix Series is back. I'm super excited to have fellow blogger and DJ Chris Kontos, contribute to the series. Chris is part of the amazing blog plaidmusic - a site I'd expect most readers of this blog to be extremely familiar with. If not - get familiar folks! Ok, enough of me...time to let Chris do the talking.

"This is a collection of my warmest memories from my endless summers in the embrace of the Aegean Sea. The north winds of August blowing violently on our blue painted windows. Watching the sun diving into the water from our little balcony. The crickets singing their midnight symphonies outside our room. The smell of oil tan in my bag. The taste of saltwater on your skin. The humming of the old refrigerator that is the most beautiful sound of the summer. This is Caldera, a tribute to a place so imaginary, but so real in the same place. The island of our dreams."

It's always the same, as always.

Can't wait to pick up this full length. Was never a huge fan of Mr. Pink - but this single is MASSIVE. Hoping the album is the same...

Mixed emotions.

Here's the first (and only) take on a mix I made last night in honor of Valentine's Day. Like most of my relationships, this mix has its technical ups and downs; but it's the imperfections that make this mix (and most of my reltaionships) special and real and human, right?

Daybreak / Mr. Monday
Cambio / Corduba
Magic (Cole's Love 4 Banani Mix) / Olivia Newton-John
Morning Bump / Afrobutt
I Need Somebody To Love Tonight / Sylvester
Andromeda (Prelude To The Future) / Meanderthals
You Got The Love (House Appella) / Candi Station
Hands Of Love (Gatto Fritto Menorcan Nightmare Version) / Rocha
Cherry-Coloured Funk / Cocteau Twins

mix01: Small Pyramids

This year I'm going to start sharing mixes from people I like. Some will come from djs; while others may come from musicians or producers or both. I may even throw in a chef or two. The point is - all mixes will come from forward thinking artists I respect and admire. Sounds nice, right?

If you're a regular reader of the blog, my first guest should come as no surprise. Really diggin' this mix of new hits, a few old ones and even some originals from a super talented dude who's been featured on here before; Small Pyramids.
