Joy Revision

Happy New Year everybody! Hope 2010 was a good one :: and here's to 2011 being even better. At the tail end of last year, the homie Shawn Ryan sent over a nice little promo package of his Joy Revision edits. Shawn is a Philly based DJ/producer who I've been lucky enough to know for a couple years now. The digital only release comes courtesy of Gazeebo and can be found at Juno Download. Nicely done Shawn!

Shawn's own words on the release..."There's a driving Sylvester song , a super funky b-side from Haircut 100, and a percussion laden slow burner by Dennis Coffey".

Check out all tracks below on SoundCloud and head over to JunoDownload to buy 'em.

Turn on your Graydar.

Graydar is Peter PleasureCruise and MisterBradleyP doing what they do best - getting faded and playing dusty disco records. Here's the first in what hopes to be a series of mixtapes and productions - if they can keep their shit together.

Slow Blow

Received some really good and really fun edits from Madrid based Nelue. He describes the selection of tracks as a "tribute to people I admire"; most of which I could i.d. but some others I was clueless on. Regardless, I really enjoy all of them, which lends insight as to how groovin' each and every track is. I thought I'd share my favorite of the bunch, that coincidentally really got the floor moving this past weekend - an edit of Hot R.S.

Most disco edits I enjoy listening to and playing out often retain the original sound and feel of the track, but have subtle updates to work on today's floors. This edit of Slow Blow exemplifies that.

Oh! And check out Nelue's latest work on Eskimo's fantastic release Cosmic Balearic Beats Vol.2.

A dirty diamond.

Received a fresh new piece of music from Small Pyramids today. I've been told it's an edit....still trying to determine what tracks are involved. Any guesses?
Fans of In Flagranti and Wurst Edits will no doubt be loving this jam. A dirty disco rock vibe ... I'm totally feeling it!

Dyn-O-mite!

The homie Small Pyramids sent over a pumpin' refix of Claudja Barry's Sweet Dynamite. Soo crucial. SP has also been producing some original material and kindly gave me a track to share with you readers. Fans of spacey, cosmic disco rejoice! Keep an eye on Small Pyramids' myspazzzz for updates on original releases and remixes. Definitely an artist to watch.

Man, this is some good shit.

My classmates and I would immediately break into chorus " the sharee-eef don't like it " when our French teacher would even utter the word casbah. Mr. Turner was black and was all into Algeria and it's ties to French colonization and it's subsequent mix of cultures. So he was sayin' casbah all the fuckin' time! Super smart dude, but a total condescending prick.

Red hot In Flagranti take The Clash's hit* and strip it down to a dubby groover. The track is taken from the latest Sounds Superb release on Codek; and what from I can tell is a JunoDownload exclusive. What I don't know is if these tracks - all 10 amazing reworkings of dusty gems - have been released before. To my knowledge, they have not...anyone?

Abash Crock / In Flagranti - expired.

* Rock the Casbah was written in 1982 in response to Iran's outlawing of music, particularly disco.
