Seeing Cyan.

Just got sent the newest track from Kindness. I constantly include the cover version of Swinging Party in my DJ sets - and am pretty amped to see new stuff coming out.

Little is known or shared on this mysterious entity - but the music speaks for itself. This is the first single, recorded with Philip Zdar, off a forthcoming full length to be released on Female Energy Records on October 24th in the UK. It will see an October 25th release in the US on Terrible Records on limited to 500 12"s. Grip it.

Turn on your Graydar.

Graydar is Peter PleasureCruise and MisterBradleyP doing what they do best - getting faded and playing dusty disco records. Here's the first in what hopes to be a series of mixtapes and productions - if they can keep their shit together.

A Philly Classic.

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome re-edit/re-mix of classic Philly Soul from classy Philly resident Peter Dragontail.

A great, dark man.

I ripped this track late last year and completely forgot about it. Thank you Tigersushi for re-releasing this in 2002 and thank you Joakim for giving us the Supa Edit.

Buon Natale!

Most of this album is complete rubbish - however, this version of Winter Wonderland is quite nice. Have a safe and merry Christmas everyone!

Tell your friends to cool it.

The Belle & Sebastian EP Books is without a doubt the group's funkiest effort to date. When the release dropped in 2004 it was a pretty big departure from the standard B & S vibe - some people loved it; others hated it. I loved it (shocker!) and unearthed my copy to share with you today.

Belle & Sebastian do disco? Well, not exactly. But damn close.

Heist.

Receiving emails from The Courier of Death shouldn't be a good thing - unless of course it's from a polite chap in Glasgow. Taken from the press release:

The Courier of Death releases “Heist”, the third single from DEN HAAN in late November.

Having established themselves as firm favorites of Glasgow’s long-running club Optimo (Espacio), as well as successfully working up a sweat at Fabric and Disco Bloodbath, DEN HAAN (Matthew Aldworth & Andrew Gardiner) are back with the third instalment in their electrifying macho-disco ouvre.

This time the Glasgow duo, who were responsible for unleashing “Release the Beast” (Optimo Music) and “Night Shift” (Dissident) on unsuspecting dance floors earlier this year, return with a cinematic two-track 12”.

Greed! Violence! Double-dealing! Vengeance! These are the themes of this action-packed single.

The 12” features “Heist”, which puts you behind the wheel in an explosive hi-NRG car chase, persued by Moroderesque swooping arpeggiators and ‘punch your fist in the air’ Glam Rock Guitars. “Russian Boat Commander”, on the other hand, is a progressive Cossack disco stomper that takes you on an epic voyage of symphonic eastern melodies and dangerous Gothic undertones.

It is also the debut single from The Courier of Death, the new label run by DEN HAAN themselves. They have already released The Courier of Death – The Original Soundtrack (from the ultimate B-movie, originally released in 1984) and now adopt the same name for their label.

Escape into the unknown with DEN HAAN’s “Heist”.

Matt was kind enough to provide me with both tracks off the release. These are low bit rate and for preview only - support good music and buy the record when it drops in November!

Heist / Den Haan (YSI) - expired.

Rest In Peace.

Happy Birthday Patrick. You would only be 59 today.
Mind Warp was Patrick Cowley's last album. I've chosen to keep the recent creepy vibe going with They Came At Night, and then its onto my absolute favorite Cowley production ever ever ever, the album's title track Mind Warp.

And to think we lost him soon after the release of this absolutely pioneering piece of work...much, much too soon.

Eskimos? Igloos?

I ripped a bunch of vinyl to mp3 this past weekend. Some records I've been meaning to digitize, while others I had all but forgotten about until the digging for records to rip process began. Case in point is this 2004 release on Eskimo Recordings from Jean Winner. The release is everything you'd expect from the Eskimo crew; classy grooving house with touches of electro and disco to keep things interesting. I've taken the liberty of pitching down the track -4.
Man oh man! The four minute mark is tight...

Kick Me To Tasmania / Jean Winner (YSI) - expired.

Night Dancer.

Roller disco madness from 1979. Things really start to get nuts around the eight minute mark.
The lucky ones who got their hands on the El Bum LP last year may also recall the smokin' hot Beat Broker dub of this track.

Night Dancer / Jeanne Shy (YSI) - expired.

Rainy Day Rips

I'm trying to step up my game when it comes to ripping vinyl to digital format. The rips are getting better. At least I'd like to think they are getting better. Any insight into how I can improve my process would be greatly appreciated.

Until then - enjoy two 'good quality' rips from DFA's latest release. Capracara is a man of many aliases and has releases on Rekids, Kill the DJ and History Clock. Serious business.

As always, the 'highest quality' audio can be found on the actual release ... so go buy it!

Dollar Bins Rule

I spent part of today transferring vinyl to digital. With the advent of Serato, this is a relatively new hobby for me. Yes. I said hobby. There's no better way to spend a rainy day than going through forgotten stacks of records and rediscovering why you bought the 12" in the first place.
I ripped a bunch of old and new and everything in-between records. But one rip that I am super pumped on is a dollar bin find from last week. The gem is from Afro Cuban Band and it's the b side that's the standout track. I mean come on! The bass workout near the tail end of Baila is worth every penny spent on this brilliant Arista release.

First Fridays

I've got a monthly starting up in December. First Fridays takes place on, you guessed it, the first Friday of the month at The Matinee. I'm still developing the party – guess you could call it a work in progress(yikes!). But one thing I know for sure is it will serve as an outlet for me to play leftfield jams like this cover of The Beatles' Drive My Car; one of the many gems found on ZE Record's Mutant Disco Voumel 1.

One More Day till Halloween.

Today's the first day off I've had in a loooong time. Feels great. It's an amazingly beautiful fall day and tomorrow is Halloween. Huge.
My costume rules by the way. I'm a Hot Topic® goth.
The boogie collective known as Soft Rocks are ruling right now. They just released a 12" with tons of great edits, have been racking up some pretty tight DJ gigs and have been on official remix duties for some pretty insane artists as of late.
Keeping in step with my Halloween mode, I've chosen to post a track off Soft Rock's 2006 release Disco Power Play II.
One more day to Halloween kids!

Meet Me @ Night Moves

I've been away with alot of design work (good). A stomach flu (bad). And a couple of dj gigs (good). It's been a rollercoaster of a month kids. I also wanted to leave my Halloween mix up for a minute – check it out if you haven't already.
Some of my links were busted after zshare crashed last week, but now all active links should be fixed.
Soooooo, let's celebrate with some music!

Today I'll leave you with a jam from one of my favorite compilations of this year - Strut's Disco Italia: Essential Italo Disco Classics 1977-1985. I can't recommend this album enough to any music lover out there. Hot stuffs.

It's the weekend! And it's gonna be a fun one too. Tonight I'm playing at 806 Wine & Martini Bar and tomorrow I've got the B Side's Five Year Anniversary Party. The B Side party should be bonkers. Really looking forward to it. I'm posting a track that I will no doubt play tomorrow night – a classic cut with timeless appeal. It's nutz to think that this track has been killing dance floors for close to thirty years.

I've posted the M&M Vocal Mix of this song –  a mix that's ooozing with John Morales and Sergio Munzibai's unique mixture of latin influenced percussion. Such an anthem!

The Season of the Bitch

I'm putting together a Halloween mix and going through all sorts of random music tonight. I've pretty much got the set list - a quick 10 to 12 tracks through some weird and creepy shit. I don't wanna put too much thought or effort into it; because then all that happens is I labor over tracks and mixing (yes, I do it live – no ableton for mixes – well, at least not ones I'm doing for fun ; 0) and then its like October 30th and I still don't have the "perfect mix". Fuck that. It's all about making mixes like this in the moment. And I'm almost there.
So over the course of the next few days, I plan on posting a couple of the tracks that didn't quite make the cut. And tonight we've got reject number one*

Phantasm (Disco Remix) / Captain Zorro - EXPIRED

*Now don't get me wrong – I dig this song. I mean, there's a reason I'm taking the time to post. It just didn't work with the flow of the mix.

Open Sesame

Looking though my music tonite, I found a record(s) that I played the hell out of in 2004 - and kinda forgot about it - until now. It's an Eskimo Recordings comp with all sorts of movers. You could seriously just show up to a gig and play both records front/back and have the club going bonkers. All kinds of hits from the likes of Tiga, Mylo, Tomboy and Chromeo. As mentioned above, I pretty much played this compilation into the ground about four years ago; and its become one of those "forgotten about albums that had its day in the sun but now resides at the back of the bin" kinda thing.

But man am I glad I decided to look through some older records tonite! I uncovered two ridiculous tracks. One ridiculously good. The other ridiculously bad. Both amazing.

Fast & Delirious (Spencer Filipsson edit) / Hans Peter Lindstrom - EXPIRED

Jungle Jezebel / Divine* - EXPIRED

*yep, it's that Divine. I have no clue as to why this track appears on the comp - but I do know that it was part of a 6 track LP that was produced by Bobby Orlando. Instant gold.

Pompa Sexo

Hello Pumpkin Pies,

Well, I thought it koo-koo-krazy that PleasureCrusin' invited me back so soon. Usually, I am used to folks rejecting me after one post...this PleasureCruise fella is giving TWO bites at the apple. Holy hot bat-shit!

Some of you may already know this toon, but there are just as many that do not--and should. This hot mover is brought to us by Tommy 'Apache' Seebach. The first thing that strikes a listener it
not the music, it is Tommy's outrageously furry moustache. And, I will also admit Tommy does resemble an auto mechanic that is working off some debt, or something.

Although little known outside of Western Europe, Tommy Seebach looms large on the Danish pop landscape, enjoying massive chart success for over a quarter century. Born Thomas Seebach Mortensen in Copehagen on September 14, 1949, he studied piano as a child and at 14 formed his first band.

After more than a decade with a proper band, Seebach mounted a solo career in 1976 and a year later, he issued the best-selling
Tommygun (what a wicked-sweet name, right?) In 1979, Seebach won the Danish Melodi Grand Prix with Disco Tango. The song was a blockbuster throughout much of Western Europe.

After a long struggle with alcoholism, Seebach died of a heart attack in 2003.
