Just got sent the newest track from Kindness. I constantly include the cover version of Swinging Party in my DJ sets - and am pretty amped to see new stuff coming out.

Little is known or shared on this mysterious entity - but the music speaks for itself. This is the first single, recorded with Philip Zdar, off a forthcoming full length to be released on Female Energy Records on October 24th in the UK. It will see an October 25th release in the US on Terrible Records on limited to 500 12"s. Grip it.

Well here we go. Cinnamon Chasers is a nu-disco alias of music producer Russ Davies, exploring the colorful world of fluro-electro beats, warm melodiums and tripped out italo. I was kinda underwhelmed by the Wolfram album on first listen. I wasn't sure what it wanted itself to be. I'm still not sure what the album is supposed to be, but I am waaay more into it now. Go figure.

I've put together a mix for a party I'm playing this weekend. The gig is Made In The 216; an event put on by the super hot Room Service shop and it's proprietor, Danielle DeBoe. Billed as two days of shopping, music, beer, food and shenanigans - it all goes down this weekend June 11th and 12th. So please, come out and support local artists and small business owners. It's gonna be radical.

Ok - onto the mix. It's pretty simple, actually. Side A is for the lovers. Don Henely, Nu Shooz and Jarvis Cocker. Side B is for the party people; with the likes of Hot Chip, Kano and The Phenomenal Handclap Band. Appropriately titled, "Igor Goes to Hollywood" clocks in at ten and half minutes, and feels like a mega budget film score run amok - a brilliant combination of sounds and genres encompassing disco, jazz, folk and techno. I received a promo pack from Geneva-based duo Gina&Tony yesterday. Their bio reads "haunted melodies from the 50s, cinematic echoes from the 70s, snappy funky beats from a 21st century dancefloor and love whispers from Mars...that's what they do." A pretty cool descriptor if you ask me. Anywho - the pack came with an electro tinged reworking of the single Big Bang Love from The Phenomenal Handclap Band - and I thought I'd share it.

Here's a fun little number from 1987. More of a quirky italo/euorbeat sound on this one. The first minute is pretty hot. Can't tell you much about the artist U.K. - I've got this on a ZYX Heart Italo Disco comp.

Copies of this 12" release are going for close to $100 US. Who's paying that out there?! This whole vinyl, dj, producer, blogger scene we exist in can at times, be very, very strange.

I busted out my copy of Oliver Stone's The Doors this past Sunday. How good is that movie?! So of course watching the film got me thinking about their music. The next thing you know, The Ghost Song is on repeat for a day. I know this will sound super snobbish, but there are only soo many Doors songs I can enjoy nowadays. The Ghost Song is one of those songs. I dug up the longer vesion. Actually, the song itself isn't any longer or different; it's more of a hidden ending after about 30 seconds of dead air at the end of the track. I've also included a short interview with Mr Morrison. It's about one minute and it is awesome.

I love this record. Not too sure what drew me to it back in 2003 - but thank god I bought it. The title track See What I've Become is like this awesome hybrid of ambient / electronic / indie rock. And it still sounds soo fresh - maybe even fresher, now that this whole lo/fi no/fi scene is going bananas.

I've been playing this record out for years (as evident in the 'far from minty fresh' condition) and never really took the time to look into who Ghost Cauldron was until I decided to post it. Apparently Ghost Cauldron is DJ Kaos. Am I the only person who didn't know this?!?

Halloween III. I don't think I can put into words just how awesome this movie is. And the soundtrack by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth is fantastic. Chariots of Pumpkins is my favorite on the album. Its got that driving, pulsating feel that I love in so many of Carpenter's film scores. A close second is First Chase. Oh, and Halloween Montage is the track with the classic Silver Shamrock jingle. He describes the selection of tracks as a "tribute to people I admire"; most of which I could i.d. but some others I was clueless on. Regardless, I really enjoy all of them, which lends insight as to how groovin' each and every track is. I thought I'd share my favorite of the bunch, that coincidentally really got the floor moving this past weekend - an edit of Hot R.S.

Most disco edits I enjoy listening to and playing out often retain the original sound and feel of the track, but have subtle updates to work on today's floors. This edit of Slow Blow exemplifies that.
